What's the nerdiest thing about you?
OH MY GOD. Where to begin? I'm such a geography nerd (I'm a cartographer by trade, as is my husband) that I'll critique maps on tv and on the news. And it's not in an interesting way, either. I also describe NON-internet things as very "Web 2.0" and it makes me very dorky. I told my husband the other day that I liked the way our neighbors flowerbeds curved b/c it was very "Web 2.0." I also protect my pens like they were my children. I'm just a well-rounded nerd/geek/dork - depending on who you ask.
What was (or is) your favorite subject in school?
In elementary/middle school my favorite subject was always math because I was the top of my class in it. But once I got to High Schoo, my favorites subjects had more to do with my favorite teachers: English some years, Speech one year, Biology, Art - it just depended on the teacher.
How well do you know your next-door neighbors?
I don't know my current neighbors that well, but my last set of neighbors I became such good friends with, I asked the kids to be in my wedding.
What magazines do you subscribe to, and why?
I subscribe to Entertainment Weekly because it is actually commentary about all forms of entertainment, minus the tabloid crap. HOWEVER - I buy all the tabloids at the check-out. Somehow by NOT subscribing to them, I feel less dirty.
What is your favorite cover song?
Question submitted by Ray.
There is a cover of All Along the Watchtower that the Dave Matthews Band did years ago that Trey Anastasio (from Phish) and John Popper (from Blues Traveler) joined in on. I traded for it back when I used to trade live sets from jam bands. It was such a score as it was soundboard quality. I'm sure I could download it off iTunes nowadays but there was something about listening to it on a tape I had been mailed and felt lucky to score that made it that much more awesome.
If you could be on any reality TV show, which one would you pick and why?
Man. I would LOVE to be on The Amazing Race with my husband. Now, I acknowledge we'd get booted the first episode because I have ZERO sense of direction (yes, I make maps for a living) and am afraid of heights, but the traveling around the world? Would be SO COOL.
If you could get someone in your life to start a blog, who would it be and why?
I would love my Dad and brother to start a blog because they are both so witty and insightful and entertaining and smart and I would love to have archives of their thoughts. But, I dont think either one of them would be all that interested. Where they enjoy mine, that's about as far as they'll go.
What's the strongest association you have between a scent and a memory?
I actually have a couple that come to mind:
Polo cologne totally makes me think of a football player I date in high school. I don't smell it often, but when I do I think of Chad. Which, is weird b/c he's probably the boyfriend of the past I cared about the least.
Old school Suave (before they got all fancy with the nine-million scents) used to make me think of the showers at Yellowstone for some reason. I guess I used that shampoo there when we went cross-country camping, but seems weird to stay with me for so long.
Moth balls make me think of my Mom's parents house growing up.
There's a scent of incense (sandalwood - stickless) that makes me think of the stoners I used to live with a billion years ago.
