If you could get someone in your life to start a blog, who would it be and why?
I would love my Dad and brother to start a blog because they are both so witty and insightful and entertaining and smart and I would love to have archives of their thoughts. But, I dont think either one of them would be all that interested. Where they enjoy mine, that's about as far as they'll go.
I do my workshop today at Blogher. I wish I had a bunch of invites to Vox to hand out since I'll be talking about it, but I've been saving the three I have for people who seem interested.
We're back from the beach. I am glad to be home but I am NOT happy to be going to work in 30 minutes. I didn't think Mondays had levels of "Suck" but this one is definitely in the Red Level of Sucktitude. It is just too damn early to be up and about.
I've never been a big "beach" person because I'm not a strong swimmer so the ocean kinda scares me. This trip was great though, I never went in deeper than my chest but I did that a lot and found the ocean is fun when you can still touch. We were also on such a secluded beach (un-developed area still exists along the gulf, who knew?) we found GOBS and GOBS of seashells. My mother-in-law found about 14 full and unbroken sanddollars. ROCKIN.
Well, off to get ready for work. BAH.
What's the strongest association you have between a scent and a memory?
I actually have a couple that come to mind:
Polo cologne totally makes me think of a football player I date in high school. I don't smell it often, but when I do I think of Chad. Which, is weird b/c he's probably the boyfriend of the past I cared about the least.
Old school Suave (before they got all fancy with the nine-million scents) used to make me think of the showers at Yellowstone for some reason. I guess I used that shampoo there when we went cross-country camping, but seems weird to stay with me for so long.
Moth balls make me think of my Mom's parents house growing up.
There's a scent of incense (sandalwood - stickless) that makes me think of the stoners I used to live with a billion years ago.
It's my birthday today and my daughter celebrated by pooping on me! AWESOME. But really? Who cares - it's also FRIDAY and I'm leaving for VACATION tonight at the BEACH. So, Friday, Beach, Vacation and Birthday? Yeah - I think all of that can withstand some poop interference.
I went to the gym to run three miles on the treadmill last night (for the third night this week!) and then came home to start packing/cleaning. I hate coming home from vacation to a messy house, so I like my house to be clean before I leave. This morning? I erased those three miles by getting a bagel with cream cheese AND a blueberry muffin at Breuggers on the way to work. Oh well - I'm allowed to binge on my birthday, right?
I am so excited to see the integration of Istockphoto in with the posts. I have long been a user at Istock to make free blog templates for people so it's great to see them widen their exposure to Vox users. There are some great illustrators that send their work to istock so I look forward to seeing their art used in Vox posts. Hooray!
We're going meta today: What questions would you'd like to see become QoTDs?
What is the first purchase you remember making with your own hard-earned money?
If you could eat dinner with one person from the past, dead or alive, who would it be?
What would you name your band if you had one?
What is your favorite time of year?
If you were given a free round-trip plane ticket to anywhere in the US, where would you go? What about anywhere in the world?
If you were trying to promote the city you live in to someone, what would you tell them about it?
What was your most memorable or favorite school field trip?
Actually, it was in High School. I had finally gotten to the phase in my life where I thought my Dad was really cool. My Senior year they were taking the Advanced Bio class (mine) and the Freshmen Bio classes to the Chattanooga aquarium and they were short on chaperones. My Dad hadn't ever done anything like that before but I knew he would LOVE it because he always enjoyed being a part of group functions with me and other kids my age. He chaperoned and it was a ton of fun. I always have wondered if he enjoyed that as much as I did.
I am ashamed to admit how utterly thrilled I am the Big Brother starts up tonight - with ALL STARS! I even know who they are thanks to CBS leaving the live-feeds on for an hour the other day (accidently my ass) and I can not WAIT.
I can not believe I'm admitting to loving that show.
